About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship

The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in New Ulm, MN, nurtures passionate individuals committed to building a food system that embodies social, environmental, and economic justice. This transformative program, sponsored by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, offers comprehensive, tuition-free training that empowers Fellows to become effective educators and advocates. Participants engage in hands-on, experiential learning at the Allegheny Farm Campus, where they immerse themselves in organic food system education and gain real-world experience. Throughout the fellowship, selected individuals collaborate with community partners to diversify crop production on market-style farms, conduct innovative health education sessions, manage school and community gardens, and promote food and ecological literacy among youth. Additionally, Fellows actively contribute to enhancing access to healthy foods by supporting farmers markets and establishing direct-to-consumer programs. After their initial six-month residency, Fellows embark on a meaningful Community Action Year, partnering with local non-profits to implement their training and make a tangible impact in their communities. Applications are accepted until March each year, with programming running from May to October.
