About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship
Based in Lakota, ND, the Farm & Food Systems Fellowship empowers individuals to become passionate advocates for a food system that prioritizes social, environmental, and economic justice. By offering comprehensive training at the Allegheny Farm in Highland County, VA, this program ensures accessibility by not charging tuition for participants. Fellows immerse themselves in organic food system education and engage in hands-on initiatives such as growing and distributing a variety of crops on a market-style farm, implementing innovative health care educational sessions, and maintaining community or school gardens. The fellowship also promotes food and ecological literacy in educational settings, supports local farmers markets, and helps develop distribution channels to enhance access to healthy foods. After a transformative six-month residency, Fellows enter a Community Action Year, working alongside regional non-profit partners to apply their skills and make a tangible impact. Interested individuals should complete their applications by March to join the fellowship experience from May to October.
