Located in Minto, ND, the Farm & Food Systems Fellowship empowers individuals to become advocates for a food system that prioritizes social, environmental, and economic justice. Built on the principle of accessibility, this fellowship provides its participants with comprehensive organic food system education without charging tuition. Fellows engage in hands-on experiences at the Allegheny Farm, where they learn to grow and distribute diverse crops, implement innovative health education sessions, maintain community gardens, and integrate food and ecological literacy into local schools. The program also emphasizes building connections through farmers markets and direct-to-consumer initiatives, enhancing access to healthy foods, and fostering community engagement. Throughout their six-month residency, selected Fellows practice their skills and knowledge, followed by a Community Action Year where they partner with regional non-profit organizations to make a tangible impact. Applications are accepted until March each year, with experiences running from May to October.
