About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship
The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Grand Island, NE, is dedicated to training and empowering individuals to advocate for a food system that prioritizes social, environmental, and economic justice. This immersive program allows selected Fellows to engage in hands-on learning at the Allegheny Farm, fostering a deep understanding of organic food systems without any tuition fees to ensure accessibility. Over six months, participants acquire practical skills in growing and distributing diverse crops, implementing educational sessions on innovative healthcare, maintaining community and school gardens, and integrating food and ecological literacy into local curricula. Additionally, Fellows play a vital role in supporting farmers markets and direct-to-consumer sales, developing pathways for increased access to healthy food, and strengthening community food coalitions. After this foundational training, Fellows embark on a Community Action Year, partnering with non-profits to apply their knowledge and create a lasting impact. Applications for this transformative experience are open until March, with the program running from May to October.
