The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship, located in Superior, NE, is dedicated to cultivating leaders in sustainable agriculture through hands-on training and advocacy for a fair and accessible food system. Sponsored by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, this Fellowship empowers individuals to engage in organic food system education and initiatives that support environmental, social, and economic justice. Fellows participate in a comprehensive six-month experiential program at Allegheny Farm, where they learn to grow and distribute diverse crops, implement innovative health care education, maintain community gardens, and integrate food and ecological literacy into local schools. Furthermore, they play an essential role in supporting farmers markets and developing distribution channels to enhance access to healthy food options. After the initial training, Fellows apply their skills during a Community Action Year by collaborating with regional non-profits, ensuring that their contributions foster meaningful change in local food systems. Applications are encouraged for submission by March each year, with the fellowship experience running from May to October, providing an urgency to act in support of sustainable food practices.
