Based in Hernandez, NM, the Farm & Food Systems Fellowship is dedicated to empowering and educating the next generation of advocates for a just food system. Sponsored by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, this fellowship offers a unique opportunity for selected individuals to immerse themselves in organic food system education over a six-month experiential residency at the Allegheny Farm Campus in Highland County, VA. Committed to accessibility, AMI charges no tuition, ensuring that the fellowship reaches diverse aspiring leaders. During their training, Fellows engage in meaningful activities such as growing and distributing diversified crops, implementing health-focused educational sessions, maintaining community and school gardens, and integrating food and ecological literacy into educational settings. The Fellowship culminates in a Community Action Year, where participants collaborate with regional non-profit organizations to apply their skills and knowledge, fostering sustainable practices and direct access to healthy foods throughout the community. Applications for this transformative experience are due by March, with the program running from May to October.
