The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Thoreau, NM empowers individuals to become passionate advocates for a fair, sustainable food system. Our program, offered by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, focuses on providing comprehensive training in organic food system education without tuition barriers to enhance accessibility. Selected Fellows participate in a transformative six-month experiential residency at our Allegheny Farm Campus, where they gain hands-on experience in various projects such as growing and distributing diverse crops, implementing innovative health care education sessions, and maintaining community gardens. Additionally, they work to elevate food and ecological literacy within school curricula, support farmers markets, and establish effective distribution channels to enhance access to fresh, healthy foods. Following their residency, Fellows engage in a Community Action Year where they collaborate with regional non-profits to apply their skills and knowledge, making a tangible impact on food equity and community health. Applications are due by March for the May to October cohort, and all individuals dedicated to promoting social, environmental, and economic justice in the food system are encouraged to apply.
