Nestled on 150 scenic acres in the Bald Eagle State forest, White Deer Run Allenwood offers comprehensive detox and residential treatment for men and women struggling with substance use disorders and co-occurring conditions. Since 1970, this gender-specific program has specialized in treating addiction alongside mental health issues including PTSD, bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, and ADHD. The facility accommodates 264 clients within its peaceful mountain setting, providing a natural environment conducive to healing and recovery. Treatment begins with a thorough assessment to understand each client's medical background, family history, and personal goals, resulting in an individualized care plan. The center offers medically monitored detoxification with medication-assisted treatment options including Vivitrol and buprenorphine when appropriate. In the residential program, clients receive twice-weekly individual therapy sessions and family therapy, all coordinated by a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, nurses, masters-level therapists, counselors, and social workers. White Deer Run integrates evidence-based approaches including cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and rational emotive behavioral therapy within a 12-Step framework. Specialized groups address gender-specific concerns, relapse prevention, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, and anger management, while also focusing on essential life skills and coping strategies. The center's holistic approach includes experiential therapies offered at least three times weekly, such as aromatherapy, meditation, guided imagery, Reiki, reflexology, tai chi, and yoga. Clients benefit from campus amenities including walking trails, a craft room, ping pong facilities, a gym, dedicated Reiki and meditation spaces, and an outdoor low ropes course. For those unable to attend in person, White Deer Run provides a telehealth program three days weekly, three hours per day. As part of the Veterans Affairs Community Care Network, the center also serves veterans seeking treatment. Discharge planning begins at admission, with continuing care services available to support sustained recovery after completing the residential program.
