The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship, located in Irmo, SC, is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of advocates for a just and sustainable food system. Sponsored by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, this transformative program offers a six-month experiential training at the Allegheny Farm Campus in Highland County, VA, where Fellows gain essential organic food system education alongside practical, hands-on experience. Without charging tuition, the Fellowship ensures accessibility to all passionate individuals. Participants engage in diverse activities such as growing crops on a market-style farm, conducting educational health sessions, maintaining community gardens, and promoting food literacy in schools. Additionally, they support farmers markets and work on initiatives that improve access to healthy foods while mentoring future fellows in their Community Action Year. Applications are accepted until March each year, with experiences typically running from May to October.
