The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship based in Alcester, SD is dedicated to training and empowering individuals to advocate for a food system that prioritizes social, environmental, and economic justice. Through our immersive program, selected Fellows engage in six months of hands-on education at the Allegheny Farm, where they learn about organic agriculture and sustainable practices. Our fellowship is completely tuition-free, ensuring that accessibility is at the core of our mission. Fellows will gain valuable experience in growing diverse crops, conducting innovative health education sessions, managing community gardens, and promoting food and ecological literacy in schools. They will collaborate with local non-profit organizations to enhance community food initiatives, support farmers markets, and develop crucial distribution channels for healthy food access. The journey culminates in a Community Action Year, where Fellows apply their skills to make a positive impact in their communities. Applications are accepted until March each year, with the fellowship experience running from May to October.
