The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Black Hawk, SD, is dedicated to cultivating a new generation of leaders who promote food systems that prioritize social, environmental, and economic equity. Sponsored by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, this immersive program empowers selected Fellows to engage in hands-on education in organic farming and sustainable practices. Without tuition fees, we strive to make our training accessible to all. Throughout a transformative six-month fellowship at our Allegheny Farm Campus, participants gain invaluable experience in diverse aspects of food systems, including the growth and distribution of crops, implementation of health-focused educational initiatives, support for community gardens, and enhancement of food literacy in educational settings. Following their training, Fellows undertake a Community Action Year, collaborating with local non-profits to apply their skills and expand access to healthy food options in the region. We welcome applications until March each year, with the fellowship experience running from May to October, and invite passionate individuals to join us in driving positive change in our food systems.
