The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Chamberlain, SD, is dedicated to nurturing advocates for a just food system that respects social, environmental, and economic values. By sponsoring and empowering Fellows through comprehensive organic food system education, this program emphasizes accessibility through zero tuition fees. Participants engage in hands-on training that includes growing and distributing diverse crops on market-style farms, running educational sessions for innovative healthcare, and maintaining school and community gardens. Additionally, Fellows learn to integrate food and ecological literacy into educational activities, support farmers markets and direct-to-consumer initiatives, and develop distribution channels that enhance access to healthy foods. Following a six-month immersive residency at the Allegheny Farm Campus, Fellows apply their skills during a Community Action Year, collaborating with regional non-profits to invest in sustainable, equitable food systems. Those interested are encouraged to apply by March, with the fellowship experience spanning from May to October of the same year.
