The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Crooks, SD, is dedicated to cultivating the next generation of advocates for a just and sustainable food system. Through comprehensive training and empowerment, our Fellows engage deeply with organic agriculture and essential food system education. This experiential program offers a unique opportunity to learn by doing, as participants grow and distribute diverse crops, implement innovative health care educational sessions, maintain community and school gardens, and integrate food and ecological literacy into educational activities. We work closely with local partners to support farmers markets and boost direct access to healthy foods, facilitating community food coalition initiatives and mentoring future Fellows. Our commitment to accessibility ensures that there are no tuition fees, making the fellowship available to all passionate individuals. Participants will spend six months of immersive learning at our beautiful farm campus, followed by a Community Action Year where they can apply their knowledge with regional non-profit organizations. Applications are accepted until March each year, with the fellowship experience running from May to October.
