Farm & Food Systems Fellowship

Allegheny Mountain Institute (AMI) Deadwood, SD

About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship

Located in Deadwood, SD, the Farm & Food Systems Fellowship empowers individuals to champion a food system that is socially, environmentally, and economically just. Sponsored by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, this fellowship provides no-cost training to promote accessibility in learning and advocacy. Fellows engage in hands-on education focused on organic food systems and work on market-style farms to grow and distribute diversified crops. They also lead innovative health care education sessions, maintain community gardens, and enhance food and ecological literacy in local schools. Throughout the program, participants contribute to community food initiatives, support farmers markets, and develop better distribution channels for healthy food access. Over six months, selected Fellows immerse themselves in experiential learning at the Allegheny Farm, followed by a Community Action Year where they apply their knowledge alongside regional non-profits. Applications are due by March each year for the fellowship that runs from May to October.
