The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Elk Point, SD, is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of advocates for a just and sustainable food system. Our program sponsors and trains Fellows at the Allegheny Farm, empowering them to teach and promote the importance of organic food practices that prioritize social, environmental, and economic equity. By providing tuition-free education, we enhance accessibility for passionate individuals eager to make a difference. During their six-month immersive experience, Fellows engage in diverse hands-on projects, such as growing and distributing crops on a market-style farm, conducting health education workshops, maintaining community gardens, and fostering food and ecological literacy in schools. Additionally, they play an active role in supporting farmers markets and enhancing access to healthy foods through innovative distribution channels. Following their training, Fellows enter a Community Action Year, collaborating with local non-profits to implement meaningful changes in food systems. Applications are open until March for experience opportunities from May to October, inviting passionate individuals to join us in transforming our communities through food assistance and education.
