About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship

The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Fort Thompson, SD, is dedicated to training and empowering future leaders in the sustainable food movement by fostering a socially, environmentally, and economically just food system. Through hands-on, experiential learning at the Allegheny Farm Campus, selected Fellows engage in comprehensive education on organic food systems and community-based initiatives that address pressing local food needs. Our program encourages collaboration with non-profit organizations to cultivate and distribute diverse crops, implement innovative health care education, maintain community and school gardens, and integrate food and ecological literacy into educational settings. We strive to promote greater access to healthy foods through farmers markets and direct-to-consumer programs while supporting community food coalitions. With no tuition fees, we prioritize accessibility and inclusivity for all participants, providing a pathway for dedicated individuals to effect meaningful change in their communities. Apply by March to join us in our mission to create resilient food systems, with the program running from May to October.
