The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Howard, SD, is dedicated to training and empowering individuals as advocates for a food system that prioritizes social, environmental, and economic justice. Through our comprehensive program, we offer organic food system education without tuition fees, ensuring accessibility for all aspiring Fellows. Participants will engage in hands-on learning experiences at our Allegheny Farm, where they will grow and distribute diverse crops, implement innovative health education sessions, maintain community and school gardens, and integrate food and ecological literacy into educational activities. Additionally, Fellows support local farmers markets and help create distribution channels that increase access to healthy foods, while actively participating in community food coalition initiatives. This impactful fellowship experience spans six months of residential study followed by a Community Action Year, allowing Fellows to apply their skills in partnership with regional non-profit organizations. Applications are accepted until March each year, with the program running from May to October.
