The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Jefferson, SD, is dedicated to cultivating empowered advocates for a just food system that prioritizes social, environmental, and economic equity. Sponsored by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, this tuition-free program offers a comprehensive six-month experiential training at the Allegheny Farm Campus, where selected Fellows engage in organic food system education and develop practical skills. Participants work collaboratively to grow and distribute diverse crops, run educational workshops on health care innovation, maintain school and community gardens, and promote food literacy within educational settings. Additionally, Fellows play an instrumental role in supporting farmers markets and enhancing access to nutritious food through various community initiatives. Following their intensive training, Fellows embark on a Community Action Year to apply their knowledge in partnership with regional non-profits, creating meaningful impacts in their local areas.
