Based in Kimball, SD, the Farm & Food Systems Fellowship empowers individuals to become advocates for a just and sustainable food system. This immersive program provides comprehensive education on organic food systems without any tuition fees, ensuring accessibility to all. Selected Fellows engage in hands-on experiences at the Allegheny Farm, where they learn to grow and distribute diversified crops while implementing educational sessions to enhance health care initiatives. They actively participate in maintaining school and community gardens, integrate food and ecological literacy into educational frameworks, and support local farmers markets and direct-to-consumer food programs. After six months of intensive training, Fellows embark on a Community Action Year, applying their skills collaboratively with regional non-profits to foster increased access to healthy foods and strengthen community food initiatives. Applications are accepted until March each year, with the fellowship experience taking place from May to October.
