About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship
The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship, based in Lake Andes, SD, is dedicated to cultivating a food system that is socially, environmentally, and economically just. This innovative program trains and empowers Fellows to become effective educators and advocates for sustainable practices that benefit their communities. Through an immersive six-month experience at the Allegheny Farm Campus, participants engage in hands-on training in organic food systems, learning to grow and distribute diverse crops, run community gardens, and implement health-focused educational sessions. Following their residency, Fellows embark on a Community Action Year, collaborating with local non-profit organizations to increase access to healthy foods and support initiatives like farmers markets and community food coalitions. By eliminating tuition fees, the Fellowship promotes accessibility for all aspiring change-makers committed to enhancing food literacy and sustainability. Applications are accepted until March each year, with the program running from May to October.
