The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Lower Brule, SD is dedicated to nurturing a new generation of leaders who advocate for a just food system that prioritizes social, environmental, and economic fairness. This transformative program offers an immersive six-month experience at the Allegheny Farm Campus, where selected Fellows receive comprehensive training in organic food system education. The Fellowship emphasizes practical learning, enabling Fellows to partner with local initiatives to cultivate diversified crops, maintain community gardens, and integrate food and ecological literacy in educational settings. Additionally, they engage with farmers markets, develop distribution channels for healthy food access, and participate in community food coalition activities. With no tuition fee, the Fellowship promotes accessibility and equity within food assistance initiatives, aiming to create sustainable impacts in local communities. Applications are accepted until March each year, with the program running from May to October.
