About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship
The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Piedmont, SD, is dedicated to nurturing future leaders in sustainable agriculture and equitable food access. This transformative program empowers selected Fellows to become advocates and educators for a just food system through immersive training at the Allegheny Farm Campus. With a focus on organic food system education, participants engage in hands-on experiences, from growing diversified crops to mentoring the next generation of change-makers. The Fellowship promotes accessibility by waiving tuition, allowing all individuals to learn and lead initiatives that enhance community food security and foster ecological literacy. Over six months of experiential training, and a subsequent Community Action Year, Fellows collaborate with regional non-profit organizations to implement creative solutions such as school gardens, health-focused educational sessions, and robust farmers’ markets. The journey begins with an application due by March, with the fellowship running from May to October.
