The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Pierre, SD, nurtures aspiring leaders committed to cultivating a socially, environmentally, and economically just food system. Sponsored by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, this transformative program offers a six-month immersive experience at the scenic Allegheny Farm in Highland County, VA, where Fellows receive comprehensive organic food system education at no cost, ensuring accessibility for all. Through hands-on training, Fellows will engage in diverse projects such as growing and distributing crops, facilitating educational health sessions, and enhancing food literacy in schools. They will also support community initiatives like farmers markets, community food coalitions, and the creation of sustainable distribution channels to improve access to healthy food. Following their residency, each Fellow embarks on a Community Action Year, collaborating with regional non-profit organizations to apply their knowledge and champion food justice. Applications are open until March of each year, with experiences running from May to October.
