The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Springfield, SD, is dedicated to cultivating a new generation of advocates and educators within the food system, focusing on social, environmental, and economic justice. Through an immersive six-month experiential program at the Allegheny Farm, selected Fellows receive comprehensive training in organic food systems, empowering them to implement community initiatives such as diversified crop cultivation, educational health programs, and the maintenance of school and community gardens. The Fellowship emphasizes inclusivity by not charging tuition, ensuring wider access to vital education in food and ecological literacy. After their training, Fellows engage in a Community Action Year, partnering with local non-profits to apply their skills in real-world settings, while also supporting farmers markets and expanding channels for healthy food access.
