About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship

The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Valley Springs, SD, empowers passionate individuals to become advocates for a just and sustainable food system. This unique fellowship offers a comprehensive, hands-on education in organic farming, focusing on the social, environmental, and economic aspects of food systems. Through our no-cost program, selected Fellows engage in a six-month experiential residency at the Allegheny Farm, gaining invaluable skills in crop diversification, community garden management, and food literacy education. In addition, they actively contribute to initiatives that enhance access to healthy food, such as supporting farmers markets and collaborating with local non-profits during their Community Action Year. As a fellowship that emphasizes mentorship and community engagement, we believe in cultivating a new generation of leaders dedicated to transforming our food systems for the better. Applications are accepted until March each year, with the fellowship experience running from May to October.
