About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship
Located in Whitewood, SD, the Farm & Food Systems Fellowship at the Allegheny Mountain Institute is dedicated to cultivating a socially, environmentally, and economically just food system. We empower Fellows through comprehensive training that equips them to become influential educators and advocates for sustainable practices. Our tuition-free program promotes accessibility and focuses on organic food system education, allowing participants to engage in meaningful community initiatives. Throughout the six-month experiential training at our Allegheny Farm Campus, selected Fellows gain hands-on experience in growing and distributing diverse crops, implementing innovative health care education, maintaining school and community gardens, and integrating food and ecological literacy into educational activities. Additionally, they support local farmers markets and develop essential distribution channels to increase access to healthy foods. After this immersive experience, Fellows continue their journey by participating in a Community Action Year, collaborating with regional non-profits to apply their knowledge and foster community-driven solutions. Applications are accepted until March each year, with the fellowship running from May to October.
