Based in Winner, SD, the Farm & Food Systems Fellowship at the Allegheny Mountain Institute is dedicated to cultivating the next generation of leaders in sustainable food systems. Our program empowers selected Fellows through hands-on training in organic food production, community advocacy, and ecological practices to create a food system that is socially, environmentally, and economically just. We believe in accessibility and do not charge tuition, ensuring opportunities for all passionate individuals. Throughout the six-month experiential residency at our Allegheny Farm Campus, Fellows will engage in growing and distributing diverse crops, leading educational sessions, managing community gardens, and integrating food and ecological literacy into local schools. Additionally, they will help enhance farmers markets and develop effective distribution channels to improve access to healthy foods. After their residency, Fellows will enter a Community Action Year, working with regional non-profit organizations to put their training into practice. Applications are open until March in the application year, with fellowship experiences taking place from May to October.
