The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship, based in Bradford, VT, is dedicated to training and empowering emerging leaders who advocate for a just food system that prioritizes social, environmental, and economic equity. Sponsored by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, this fellowship provides a unique, tuition-free opportunity for selected Fellows to engage in six months of immersive education at the Allegheny Farm in Highland County, VA, followed by a Community Action Year where they apply their newfound skills with local non-profits. Participants receive hands-on training in organic food systems, aiding in the growth and distribution of diverse crops, implementing health-oriented educational sessions, managing school and community gardens, and integrating food and ecological literacy into educational programs. By supporting farmers markets and building distribution channels, the fellowship enhances community access to healthy food while fostering collaboration within food coalition activities. Applications are accepted until March for the program running from May to October each year, creating a pathway for the next generation of food advocates.
