About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship

Based in East Montpelier, VT, the Farm & Food Systems Fellowship is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of advocates and educators in sustainable food practices. Sponsored by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, this transformative program empowers fellows through a comprehensive, tuition-free training experience at the Allegheny Farm, where participants engage in hands-on organic food system education. Throughout their six-month fellowship, selected participants learn to cultivate and distribute diverse crops, implement innovative healthcare education, maintain community and school gardens, and teach ecological literacy. Following their immersive training, fellows transition into a Community Action Year, collaborating with regional non-profits to expand access to healthy foods and support local food initiatives. The fellowship is designed to promote social, environmental, and economic justice within our food systems. Applications are accepted until March each year, with the program running from May to October.
