About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship
The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship, based in Hinesburg, VT, is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of food system advocates through comprehensive training and hands-on experience. Sponsored by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, this Fellowship empowers participants to champion a food landscape that prioritizes social, environmental, and economic justice. With a commitment to accessibility, the program offers organic food system education without tuition fees, allowing Fellows to fully immerse themselves in vital community initiatives. During a six-month residency at the Allegheny Farm Campus, Fellows engage in diverse activities such as growing and distributing crops on a market-style farm, maintaining community and school gardens, and implementing health-focused educational sessions. Following their hands-on study, participants enter a Community Action Year, working alongside regional non-profit organizations to promote food literacy, support farmers' markets, and expand access to healthy foods. Applications are accepted until March each year, with the program running from May to October.
