Day 14: Psalm 130 - Out of the Depths

Take a moment to close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. Then open your eyes and slowly read and pray today's psalm in the image above.
Psalm 130 begins with a cry for mercy from the depths (1-2). It then turns to sin and forgiveness (3-4). Not all, or even most, suffering is the result of a person's sin, but many people who suffer become more aware of the brokenness in the world and in their own lives. Concentrating on God's forgiveness can bring comfort even when your suffering is not related to personal sin.
The psalmist waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning (5-6), like someone on night duty eagerly waiting for sunrise. Consider whether thinking of Jesus as the embodiment of God's unfailing love and promised redemption brings you comfort (7-8).
Slowly pray Psalm 130 again. See if you can be both honest with God about your feelings and hopeful about his promises. Don't force yourself to choose between the two if you feel conflicted.

Community discussion:
The psalmist waits for God like a watchman waiting for morning (6). If you are in a dark season, how might cultivating expectation and hope in God's unfailing love bring you courage and strength?
