It's totally normal for teens to be in relationships these days—just like it has been for many generations. Dating during the teen years is a way for people to explore emotions, learn about relationships, and figure out what they want in a partner for the future.
Nearly every teen experiences relationships differently. Some start dating young, some wait until they feel ready, and some aren’t interested at all. And that’s all valid. What matters most is that relationships (whether it be romantic or platonic) are healthy, respectful, and not causing unnecessary stress or harm.

Yeah, it’s definitely pretty normal for teens to be in relationships these days. That said, “normal” doesn’t mean everyone is doing it, and there’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Some teens are super into dating, while others aren’t interested at all, and both are totally okay. What’s changed a bit is how relationships start and look, especially with things like texting, social media, and dating apps for older teens.
Being in a relationship as a teen can actually be a really important part of figuring out who you are. It can help you learn how to communicate, how to deal with feelings, and even how to set boundaries. Of course, it can also get messy (breakups, jealousy, drama ), those are real too. That’s why having someone to talk to (like a friend, parent, counselor, etc.) can make a huge difference.
So yeah, teen relationships are totally normal, but so is not being in one. Everyone moves at their own pace. What really matters is doing what feels right for you, not what you think you’re supposed to be doing.

Having been a teenager myself, I know fully well of the chaos it can bring. Self-esteem problems, peer pressure, changing relationships, new feelings, and increased independence. Due to increased hormones and shifts in identity, it is normal for teenagers to be in romantic relationships. It's often a healthy way to express attraction and understand qualities you would like in future relationships, both platonic and romantic.
This has been a similar trend throughout generations. My parents, who grew up in the 70s and 80s, declared their own relationships as teenagers. As common as it seems, not every teenager is in a relationship. Some teenagers have no interest in finding one before adulthood. So, it's okay if you're not in a relationship, as it's normal for people to wait as well!
