How can I get help for depression and tell those I know that I have it if I'm anxious about making them worry?

I know this feeling, and I know it can be awful! But I think in this instance, you've got to focus on yourself. I think you've got to sit down with them and tell them honestly how you're feeling. Let them know that you don't want them to worry; they'll probably greatly appreciate the fact that you're worried about them, despite your own problems! They'll probably worry anyway, but that's only because they care about you, and in a way it's good that they worry, because it shows you have their support. Depression is an awful thing to go to, especially alone, and having someone there to support you makes it that much easier for you. It's worth it, I promise. Good luck!

Realistically, if you truly want to help yourself, you need to push through the anxiety. Telling the ones you love and are close to is the first step to getting help. It will worry them slightly, but as long as you want help and are trying, they will be happier. Being in the dark with it is a lot worse.

I feel the exact same way hun. Well, I would tell my parents/gardiens what you are feeling and then if they are unable to help try contacting a therapist or a councillor. :)

Well how I did it was talking to my schools counselor. She promised not to tell anyone and she didn't. She was extremely nice and understanding about my situation.

Having a good therapist that you trust and feel like you can speak openly with is important. With them in your support circle, you'll have the trusted reassurance that everyone else around you does not fault you for what you are experiencing. Those who love you only want the best for you. If you had a friend who was going through something difficult alone because that friend didn't want to worry you, what advice would you give your friend?

You can get the help first and not tell them right away. No one has to know you're getting help but it would be nice for you if you had them as your support system. You have to realize that they love you. Depression is a normal thing and it is treatable. Maybe have packets of information so they can better understand what you're telling them so they don't get worried. But the most important thing is that you're getting help.

You dont have to tell anyone anything... it's up to you what you tell a person, and you're free to tell them you have depression, and you're also free to leave it out or undereggagerate it, as i do, to keep my family thinking its less severe than it is.
