Reconnecting with an ex is always a difficult thing to approach. Beforehand, I would come prepared by asking yourself if you think that he has changed enough in the past year to get back together, if there were other aspects of the relationship that led towards you ending it, if you are emotionally ready to speak with him and (most importantly) if you really WANT to speak with him again. I would be upfront and honest with where you felt when you left the relationship and if/ how you feel now is the same/ different. I would listen to what he has to say, but be realistic with his level of honesty and give yourself time to process any initial conversations before taking things further.
