Why Do My Prayers Seem Unanswered?

...See more At first glance, this question reflects a sense of silence. But when looked at more deeply, perhaps the direction of the question itself is incomplete. For a mind that reflects upon the universe sees this: This world is not a place of chaos… Rather, it is like a perfectly ordered city, a well-governed palace. Everything is in its place—measured, purposeful, and full of wisdom. Then an unavoidable question arises: Is it conceivable that the One who created such a perfect and meaningful order would not speak to His most important guests, would not make Himself known within His own dominion? For there is a simple truth: The one who makes, knows… and the one who knows, speaks. If even a small work of art points to its maker, if even a limited system reveals its designer, how could this vast, intricate, and meaningful universe remain without a voice that introduces its Creator? Indeed, reflection opens the door to a deeper truth: The Owner of this universe acts with knowledge and wisdom… Since the One who makes knows, He speaks. And if He speaks, He speaks to those who can understand, reflect, and respond. Here the matter deepens: Among all beings, the human is the most conscious, the most reflective, the one most capable of seeking meaning. Would not the address, then, be directed primarily to humanity? So perhaps the real question is not only: "Why are my prayers unanswered?" but also: "Am I truly listening to the One I am calling upon? Or am I only hearing my own voice?" For prayer is not only asking— it is also seeking to understand. And sometimes what appears to be “silence” may simply be the result of searching in the wrong place. The unity, harmony, and order in the universe point not to multiplicity at the source, but to Oneness. Answers sought in divided directions may, in fact, be waiting in a single truth. And then one is left with a final question: “If the One who governs this perfect order is One, how sincerely am I turning toward that Oneness?”

Not everything is perfect… But a heart that chooses to see beauty can still find light, even in the darkest moments.

...See more How many of us know that a chapter of the Qur’an was revealed because of a woman’s struggle? Her name was Khawla bint Tha‘labah. In a moment of anger, her husband used an old custom that left her neither truly married nor truly free. But Khawla refused to remain silent. She went to the Prophet ﷺ. She spoke. She pleaded for justice. Then came the moment when human words reached their limit. So she raised her hands and turned to Allah. And Allah heard her. The opening verses of Surah Al-Mujādilah were revealed, abolishing an unjust practice. The Qur’an preserved the struggle of a woman in a chapter that will be recited until the end of time. Is this not one of the most powerful examples of the dignity and justice Islam grants to women? Inspired by Khawla’s plea to Allah, one may imagine a prayer like this: O Allah… You see the hardship I am in. You know my poverty, my weakness, my silent tears. If I turn away from all doors, if every path feels closed, where else could I go but to You? If You turn me away, to whom would I seek refuge? From whom would I ask for help? Who could stand for me but You? I place the weight of this trial before You. I lay my helplessness in Your care. You hear even the prayers whispered in the heart. O Allah… Do not leave me among those who lose hope in You. Do not abandon me to despair. Open a way out of this narrowness, bring ease from within this darkness. Create a path where none seems to exist. Grant peace to our hearts. Do not leave us without Your help. You are the One who hears. You are the One who sees. A Life Renewed with Every Breath

...See more A human being is in need of gratitude twice with every single breath: once for being able to inhale, and once for being able to exhale. Because there is such a thing as taking but not being able to give, and giving but not being able to take. Life exists within this delicate balance. Without realizing it, without making any conscious effort, a flawless system placed within our bodies works continuously. In a single day, we breathe in and out nearly twenty-three thousand times. We never command ourselves to inhale, nor do we decide when to exhale. Yet this astonishing order operates without error or interruption. The question is: do we truly give thanks to our Lord for the breaths we are granted so effortlessly? Breathing, which we consider ordinary in daily life, is in fact the most indispensable condition for our existence. Let us imagine, even briefly, what would happen if our breath were taken away. After about one minute, we would lose consciousness; after two or three minutes, irreversible brain damage would occur—and life, with all its hopes and plans, would come to an end. This alone shows that even a single breath is among the greatest blessings bestowed upon us. The Almighty has established within the human body an extraordinarily precise mechanism that functions entirely on its own, without burdening us in the slightest. Such a system is far beyond what even the most advanced computers and technologies of our time can fully replicate. Heart, lungs, nerves, and vessels all work in perfect harmony—while we remain largely unaware of this constant miracle. For this reason, a person does not need to search for grand signs to find a reason for gratitude. Reflecting on just one breath is enough. That breath is the key to life; a silent witness to human helplessness, dependence, and the ever-present mercy that sustains us. Yes, for even a single breath, we owe our Lord a thousand thanks. For a breath is not merely air filling the lungs—it is life being granted anew, again and again.
