Biochemical Hack
OCD & Related Behaviors / by JLWells
Last post

...See more Hi everyone, I accidentally discovered a biochemical hack that completely shuts down my severe OCD rumination loops, and I wanted to share it in case it helps someone else. A few weeks ago at work, I drank a cup of leftover store-bought chocolate milk. Within minutes, the intense mental spiral I was trapped in just stopped. My face relaxed, my eyes softened, and I actually smiled. The relief lasted for a few hours. Through trial and error, I found out the science of why this works: It MUST be pre-made, store-bought chocolate milk. Candy, chocolate bars, and powder mixes (like Ovaltine) do not work. The Secret: The liquid glucose must be fully emulsified and married to the milk's lipids (fats). This structure gives the brain instant glucose fuel to stop the panic, while the fats slow down digestion so you don't get a sugar crash. Note: If you make it at home, you must let it sit in the fridge for a long time to properly emulsify. My Nighttime Routine for Prevention: To keep my anxiety and OCD at bay during the night so I can sleep, I now drink half a cup of store-bought chocolate milk every evening. I also use chamomile tea for extra support. Combining the two creates a massive, calming effect. Has anyone else noticed that specific fluids or fats help quiet their intrusive thoughts?

...See more I really slow my pace, lengthen the time I use to speak, speaking slowly. Using your breath as your first word, your first word should always be your breath. Using long pauses. Repeating the last thing you just said, if you are lost in what to say next. Versus the frantic nature of anxiety that makes you want to speak so fast, rapidly and high pitched.

...See more I really wanted to share this song by Frank Sinatra called 'Young at Heart'. I was riding around town in my car, recently after a breakup and listening to the Frank Sinatra station on my Spotify. When this song came on, it was the first time I ever heard it. It really got me through and made me feel good. I reflect on this with misty eyes anytime I hear it again. This song really got me through. Please give it a listen! https://youtu.be/61HW8uxzEZs?si=her1IKwCWTXJe2GZ
