Thinking about yesteryear

...See more Like a lot of people in their 30s, I think about my 20s. Sometimes I think about my teens. And in my mind, I see myself like a little Tom Sawyer; wide-eyed, having adventures, thumbing my nose at all the oldies. But is this actually true? At 21, was I constantly being left breathless by new experiences round every corner? Was I sat on a crowded bus to work at half 7 in the morning thinking to myself 'oo oh I'm so young, I've got so much life ahead of me, yummy yummy yum, life life life!' I'm not so sure I was. This gets me to thinking. I'm not really so decrepit. I'm closer to the grave than I was yesterday sure enough but I've still got plenty of time left. I could, if I set myself to it, achieve plenty. So why do we glamourize the past so much? Especially as it makes us feel crap about being 30something (aaahh shock horror!). And if it is just a mind set, can't we regain that now? Of course I say this before getting the bus with a load of school kids. Lucky devils

Are chat rooms the problem?

...See more Hey everyone. Before I start I appreciate that for people with nobody else to talk to, chat rooms can provide a community. However, I can't help feeling that they're also encouraging me to turn inwards. I talk about myself an awful lot on these things but I'm not sure they actually spur me into action. In fact I worry that they make it easy for me to indulge in unhealthy behaviours. For example, I'll stay up late talking to a listener or I'll spend longer on my phone than I usually would. Part of me thinks that the better course of action would be to use these less (or not at all) in favour of more constructive pastimes like pursuing my hobbies, exercising or cleaning the flat. Aren't these things going to have a bigger impact on my mental health and help me gain more control over my mind? Will they help me be more outward facing? As I said before, I understand that people are here for a variety of reasons (trauma, experience with medications etc) but, for those like me who are in the midst of a general 'life crisis', am I completely wrong about this? Or is it about striking a balance? Let me know, I'd really love to hear your opinions. Cheers, Oblomov

...See more Hey everyone. Am I in the right place for the maladjusted 30somethings dance? So all my friends are getting married, having babies and buying big houses. I spend my weekends sat in a chair with the curtains drawn often eating food labelled 'to share'. So what else is new? Any coping strategies?
