Are chat rooms the problem?
Hey everyone. Before I start I appreciate that for people with nobody else to talk to, chat rooms can provide a community. However, I can't help feeling that they're also encouraging me to turn inwards. I talk about myself an awful lot on these things but I'm not sure they actually spur me into action. In fact I worry that they make it easy for me to indulge in unhealthy behaviours. For example, I'll stay up late talking to a listener or I'll spend longer on my phone than I usually would. Part of me thinks that the better course of action would be to use these less (or not at all) in favour of more constructive pastimes like pursuing my hobbies, exercising or cleaning the flat. Aren't these things going to have a bigger impact on my mental health and help me gain more control over my mind? Will they help me be more outward facing? As I said before, I understand that people are here for a variety of reasons (trauma, experience with medications etc) but, for those like me who are in the midst of a general 'life crisis', am I completely wrong about this? Or is it about striking a balance? Let me know, I'd really love to hear your opinions. Cheers, Oblomov

Hello,, I experienced that sometimes too. I found there might be some bugs on the chat system too
Hey Oblomov. I think everyone is different. For me personally the chats are helpful, a bit of a sounding board and a way to get things off my chest, as well as listen to others who are having issues too. I think it's a balance of things. Do what works best for you! ^^
@Oblomov1990 This is a really great question! I've dealt with the same mixed feelings about the site. You mentioned you're experiencing a 'life crisis' so you may benefit from using the chats as a sounding board, or talking to a listener, but keep in mind that these are just resources. If you're going through crisis or feeling lost it's good to also be in touch with yourself to find what is best for you, activities you enjoy, and overall just taking care of yourself. :) Balance is good, and you're not alone, plenty of people on here have dealt with this same issue.
