Thinking about yesteryear
Like a lot of people in their 30s, I think about my 20s. Sometimes I think about my teens. And in my mind, I see myself like a little Tom Sawyer; wide-eyed, having adventures, thumbing my nose at all the oldies. But is this actually true? At 21, was I constantly being left breathless by new experiences round every corner? Was I sat on a crowded bus to work at half 7 in the morning thinking to myself 'oo oh I'm so young, I've got so much life ahead of me, yummy yummy yum, life life life!' I'm not so sure I was. This gets me to thinking. I'm not really so decrepit. I'm closer to the grave than I was yesterday sure enough but I've still got plenty of time left. I could, if I set myself to it, achieve plenty. So why do we glamourize the past so much? Especially as it makes us feel crap about being 30something (aaahh shock horror!). And if it is just a mind set, can't we regain that now? Of course I say this before getting the bus with a load of school kids. Lucky devils

i'm 15 but i completely get what you're saying. i glamourize my own past quite a lot even though the parts that i glamourize are far from good. i've been depressed most of the time that i glamourize and it's really funny to me, because i never actually enjoyed living through the moments.
but my theory is that we do it because we want to feel like we've lived through something good or something worth living through. not sure if that makesz sense but in my case, maybe i want to think about everything that has happened but don't really want to relive the pain.
i don't know if that makes sense or not.
what do you think about why we glamourize the past?
