...See more I'm posting this here cause I feel it can apply to wide range of EDs So I've been off and on this app with eating struggles and was recently diagnosed with anorexia nervosa (restrictive). Although the diagnosis sucks because that means I actually have to accept I have a problem, I was sort of relieved because it gave some explanation to a lot of my thoughts, actions and feelings. The next part is what's really getting to me: My parents care about me a lot, but they are threatening me if I don't change. For example, if they catch me working out they're gonna take away my car. If I don't "fix myself" (yes they said that), they're gonna make me drop out of school, which is literally the ONLY thing keeping me from completely falling off the deep end. I have no doubt in my mind that my parents love me and want me to be healthy, I'm very fortunate to have parents like them. But if I could fix it on my own, I would. If this truly is a mental illness (which I'm still having trouble accepting), is punishing your child gonna fix the problem??? I already agreed to treatment, but threatening to take away my favorite thing in the whole world as a punishment to my actions is just gonna make me stressed out and therefore restrict more. Punishing your child for having a mental illness is almost like punishing your kid for having cancer...it's not gonna fix the problem, just increase the stress.

...See more I've been new to this community for the past few weeks, but I've never been diagnosed with an ED. Today, I drove 10 hours to see my boyfriend with my mom, and I had an anxiety attack when I found out we were all going to dinner with his family. Just like that, everything came out, EVERYTHING. I told her what's been going on for the past years, what I'm feeling, how I'm in one of the worst episodes of my life, and I hated every second of it. ive always tried to bring up my anxiety about food to her, and she's noticed I maybe have only been eating a small salad a day. It never really concerned her, so I never wanted to tell her the truth. I knew she wouldn't get it and she didn't. "You just have to eat something" she told me. As many of you know, it's not that simple, it's not under my control. I'd rather starve than face the anxiety. since telling her, everything has blown up. I can't afford this on the week I get to see my bf. The voice in my head is really taking over. "You have room to lose x pounds", "eating just isn't worth it anymore", "you don't have a problem". I know I have a problem now, but for some reason I don't want to fix it, the anxiety would be too much. for my vacation, I plan on eating just enough to keep myself under the radar. I know I'm going to hate all of it, will be shaking, heart racing, nauseous. It's already ruined my vacation. thank you all for listening, I truly hope others are doing better than I am

...See more After searching through threads and doing some chatting I thought writing this would be good for some answers. For a little background info: I was very overweight in middle school. 8th grade year I almost cut food entirely and lost almost [edited by 24Help1 7/1/20 for weight] pounds in a few months. This never put me underweight, but I lost my period. Throughout highschool, I always had this fear of going back to the way I was. I'd be on the scale at least twice a day, and always monitor what I was eating. I'd never usually eat more than one meal a day, but I'd go through periods of not eating anything because the anxiety was too much. If I felt I ate too much or gained weight, I would get very upset and anxious. All I had were these voices telling me "you're gonna go right back to where you were". I was a competitive cheerleader in highschool, and although that never put pressure on me for weight, it gave me a lot of exercise that kept me in shape. When you leave a sport like that, it's very common to gain weight since your body is not getting the exercise it's used to. I gained weight, and ever since then I've been freaking out. Little by little I've gone deeper and deeper, but this isn't the first time, it just feels normal. I recently started seeing a therapist, and she has raised concerns about possibly having an ED. I can't imagine what would happen if I'm diagnosed, everything would have to change, and I really don't think it needs to. what are some other experiences? Thx 😊

...See more I'm not sure why I'm writing this, but I've been pretty angry lately. I used to be pretty heavy in junior high and I can say for the past 5 years I've always been on myself about my weight. I'm on the scale multiple times a day and get upset if I gain anymore than [edited by 24Help1 for weight] pounds. I've never usually eaten more than 1 meal a day, and sometimes I go through episodes of not eating at all. I'm honestly fighting genetics, as none of this has really caused me to lost much weight. Sure, I look in the mirror a lot and I'm not satisfied. All of this has gone on for 5 years and nothing has ever happened. I've never been underweight, never had to go to a hospital or anything. I lost my cycle for about 6 months one time but that was it. My mom has only noticed one time and she called it a "game". I've had multiple people tell me I have a problem: my brother, my friends, my therapist even, and it pisses me off. I'm healthy, I clearly don't have an eating disorder, so I wish people would mind their own business. Does anyone else have this problem???
