Finding someone who can offer careers guidance in UK
Work & Career / by resourcefulFriend2347

...See more HI, I’m looking for another job. I have put together CV’s, and useful Star examples for any potential interview. I’ve also gained a professional certification. I have tried to get help from the national careers service, but feel like their staff do not care. It’s really disheartening. I can’t get assistance from the job centre because I a not claiming benefits. I’m doing my best, it’s not working, i would like to know if i am missing something. Can you think. Of anyone else i might be able to try.

...See more Hi, I am UK based. I'd like to change careers and become a project coordinatior. I look for jobs weekly, but seem to be finding less and less. I obtained a professional certification. I worked on my CV and drafted interview behaviour stories for the interview. I feel stuck, and the national careers service isn't offering me anything else. Have you got any advice, I don't know where to turn.

...See more I am a 43 year old man and think I look gaunt. My hairs starting to go a bit at the front, think I ought to buzz it off but not with this complexion. I would like to put on a few pounds in a healthy way. The thought of a big gym programme and a drastic food increase feels a bit overwhelming. I struggle to visit the gym early. It's pretty cold when I wake up, don't see me having the get up and go to start before work.  I was raised on a pretty bland diet, and don't eat well. Picked up a few recipe books, but wonder when I'm going to be able to fit in all the cooking after a days work. TBH a lot of the time I look at the recipes and think "I won't get on with that". A lot of folk recommend batch cooking. The only think I've worked out how to do is a chilli  recipe. Any hints to assist me, my confidence is pretty low.

...See more I am a man in his early 40s. My hairs receding a bit & the skin around my eyes is ageing quite badly. I've been single for sometime and think this is one of the reasons. I had a conversation about it with my therapist and felt we'd reached an impasse. I'm procrastinating over whether to get a facial peel 'when I've nowhere to hide whilst it recovers'. I also agonise about whether to keep or buzz my hair. For health reasons I can't do the med's folks use to help keep it. Some will say it doesn't matter, others will say do x,y,z. I feel like everyone comes at it from their own perspective.

...See more I feel quite lonely. I’d really like to be in a relationship. I live in a small city. It never seems to happen for me. I have tried online, my profile tracked little attention, I sought advice to work on my profile & I didn’t do much better. I’m clearly not photogenic enough. I have done talking therapy, and improvised comedy workshops to improve my social skills. I have returned to my old karate class ‘just because I used to enjoy it’ not because it’ll help me with this. I’ve always been a fan of snooker, never been that good, been trying to learn this year. That’s really male dominated. I’m going to try get back to doing the odd gym class, it’s really hard to break the ice with people there, but maybe it’ll make me feel better about myself. I have a safe steady job.. I’m trying so hard with applications to get something better, but it’s not happening.  I never got the whole bar thing… never suddenly thought this stranger likes me I must introduce myself to them. I’ve been quite hurt by my folks alcoholism, so never really bothered. Happy to visit bars with friends, but don’t have friends to do that with. I had disappointing experience with evening classes and volunteering. Can you think of anything else I could try?

...See more I'm a 42 year old living in a small City in UK. I'm struggling to make new friends my age. I've tried evening classes, hobbies and volunteering. Meetup.com events near me are geared towards people significantly older. Has anyone got any suggestions.
