Struggling to stay clean
Self-Harm Recovery / by skaisayler

...See more Hello. I’m a 19 year old medical student. I’ve been clean from self-harm for almost 2 years but lately I’ve really been struggling to stay on the wagon. I have a panic disorder and general anxiety, and lately have been feeling really really self-conscious of my weight, to the point where all I can do is cry and hate myself for it. I could really use some pointers on how people stay clean, it’s been getting so hard to remind myself that It doesn’t help me...please help..

...See more So here is a little TW: this has to do with body image and past self-harm. I’ve always been a heavier girl and none of that bothered me for most of my life because I was healthy and very tall for my age. My freshman year of high school though, I started to get bullied for my weight and that’s when I suddenly became overly conscious of myself. I would spend everyday comparing myself to others, sucking in my stomach, wearing clothes to hide my curves, and crying because I looked different. It got to the point where I would binge eat and then self-harm as punishment. After meeting my boyfriend it stopped for a bit, but after moving onto my college campus it started happening again and now it’s to the point where I can’t wear swimsuits, can’t concentrate on anything but my weight, can’t look in mirrors, and can’t even make eye contact with people. I’m so afraid of being judged and so disgusted at how I look that I would rather stay in my dorm and take online classes...I can’t stand myself for looking like this and I just want it to go away...

...See more Hi. I’ve had a panic disorder for 7 years now, as well as PTSD from sexual assault and self harm (I’m two years clean today 🎉). Because of my past history, I’m still struggling to find a good coping mechanism and create a safe space. I would love to hear suggestions from you guys or even just how you cope when you have panic attacks. Today has been a rough day and I would really appreciate your feedback. 💖
