Apathetic boyfriend
Relationship Stress / by starcotton

...See more I had a boyfriend in college for 4 years. He was my first boyfriend and i was his first girlfriend. When i broke up with him, he got traumatized by the break up. He got lost and was really hurt. He learned to numb his feelings to no longer feel pain. We're back together now but he's struggling with his apathy. Nothing can make him sad anymore. He's somehow insensitive and definitely not romantic. He's mostly passive and no initiative. He said I'm the reason he lost his ability to open up his heart. Am i really to blame? Also, what do you think i should do? We really love each other and we're about to get married.

...See more I think I'm having depression. I also have a series of anxiety attacks last year. It doesn't help that my boyfriend is very passive and kind of apathetic. I know he's trying, and i know it's not easy for him to defy his nature. It's just isn't working for me and my mental health. I like fun and adventures. His version of fun is playing computer games and drinking with his friends. I like to have fun under the sun. He hates the sun so much. I like early mornings. He likes to get up late. I looove to read books. He can't bring himself to try reading. The little things is everything to me. He often forgets things and finds it hard to notice my favorites and preferences. We're different in a lot of ways. It's hard. More comprises and adjustments are needed. But i can't leave him. I love him too much to even consider leaving him. Our love is real. But I'm afraid our differences will eventually exhaust us both. No matter what tho, my commitment for him is rock solid. In this life, i only live for him.

...See more I'm really curious. I'm not familiar with ADHD and would like to seek your advice as someone who has experienced it. Is it hard for you to notice "the little things"? Is it hard for you to remember your partner's favorites/preferences? Do you not miss your partner? Do you not always think about your partner? Is there a connection between having adhd and being not romantic?
