Hey everyone,

A few years ago I first hopped onto 7cups because I thought I was having a quarter life crisis. I felt behind and didn't know what else to do.

Fast forward to today, I turned 27 about a week ago. I finally chose a path for myself (teaching) and I've "made it to the other side" after three years. I feel like I'm having another crisis, because now I'm thinking, "now what?"

Yes, I can focus on perfecting my craft in teaching. But the supposed next step is marriage and I don't think I'm ready for that. In my culture my age is pretty up there ("the clock is ticking" type of outdated thoughts). There has never been a someone else so I can't imagine being with someone else.

@mysterylight7  I don't think you're actually afraid of being 27. I think you've just had a particular version of society installed in your head, and now you're judging yourself through its lenses: 27, unmarried, clock ticking, what's next? 😄

But honestly, life isn't an exam where marriage is the next compulsory question after getting your career sorted. You finally found your path after three difficult years. Maybe the next chapter doesn't have to be another socially prescribed milestone. It can simply be about becoming more yourself: nurturing your interests, enjoying your hobbies, building a life that genuinely feels good to inhabit, and figuring out what you actually value.
And when someone eventually comes along, you don't have to choose them because the calendar says it's time. Choose someone with whom your inner values resonate, someone you can be yourself with, share your world with, and grow alongside. Then marriage becomes a continuation of a meaningful relationship, rather than a deadline you're trying to escape.
Also, 27 isn't ancient. You're not a medieval queen whose kingdom is collapsing because the heir hasn't arrived yet😄 You have time. Take it. Build a life you genuinely like first. The right relationship should add to that life, not become the thing that gives it legitimacy
