Why is it easier to chat about our problems online
Why do we feel it is easier to chat with people we do not know than someone we do know.
Is it because we feel - guilt, fear, resentment, or in denial ?
Online sutdies show it is easier to chat online with others who are going through similar problems that we are . The people we chat with here can give better support than those offline and can show sympathy for us by helping us out. It can be beneficial to ourselves and help to maintain a better relationship with those close to us.
We can all help each other because we may have gone through similar things and the other person can help us in ways that might of helped them, rather than those we know personally. It is also less embarrassing to get help from a stranger than in our own family or friends.
We feel if we tell others we know personally our problems that it will go to other friends who do not hear the truth of what we are going through or feeling. We hear in the Community of 35+ will see that person we listened to or helped in the chatroom and ask the next time we see them how their doing. It also helps the person here feel that their cared for or someone really cared to listen to my problem rather than maybe getting false or fake help from those we know.

@pamharley003 Yes, I agree! It seems like telling an anonymous online stranger about your problems is not as scary as being vulnerable with someone face-to-face. You can talk through what ever you are going through, but there is no stigma attached. They will never see your face, hear your voice, or read your body language, so being anonymous takes away some of the pressure. It also helps some people to ipen up more, because there is less emotional attachment to an online person vs a real life relationship.

I agree I treat everyone here as if we are in a coffee shop just chatting about whatever they want. It is easier people say to chat here then in their real life. Although I have been through what some here have or is going through, I treat them equally.

it's a difficult thing to balance, on one hand the real world stigma about mental health is very prominent, you're either considered crazy or just exaggerating, not everyone has access or can afford to see a psychiatrist/therapist, which creates an opportunity for online spaces to talk about your struggles to fill that role, but on the other hand, you don't know who is on the other end of the chat room, or what their intentions are, thus oversharing and building parasocial relationships can very dangerous

I agree with your comment, not all can get the proper treatment they deserve. It is said to be in that label of things and hurts even more when the person knows their own self better than a professional may know them. I wish those going through anything just as I am is not judged wrongly.
