Calling All Gardeners (And Gardening Hopefuls)
As Sping approches, we at the Paws house are busy planting our garden and are eager to begin landscaping projects in our bare front yard. It's said that gardening is good for the soul. It's also a wonderful way to save money by growing our own organic fruits and veggies! Need more proof? The people at Relaxmaven.com gives these 5 reasons why gardening can be thereaptic.
Gardening is relaxing: The certain mindfulness and peace with gardening allow us to escape from other people, and our critical thoughts of ourselves. Freud says that flowers are restful to look at, free from conflict and emotions. Taking care of plants awakens the carefree part of ourselves that usually gets tucked away to survive in this fast-paced, crazy time we live in. The rhythmic nature of gardening – trimming, weeding, sweeping, sowing, pruning – also allows our thoughts to ebb and flow together with our movements.
Gardening connects us to other living things: Gardening reminds us that the world does not revolve around us and we are certainly not the only living creatures on earth...gardening (is) beneficial...because it (is) centered on...goals and skills and away from...individual symptoms and insecurities.
Gardening gives us a sense of responsibility: Taking care of plants is a great way to develop respect for other living things and helps give a sense of responsibility and purpose...
Gardening releases happy hormones: Whats good for the body is also good for the mind. Gardening can be fitly likened to exercise that causes our body to release serotonin and dopamine – happy hormones – that make us feel good and improve mood. A gardening session outdoors may be tiring, but it can also get rid of any excess energy so you can sleep better and wake up feeling renewed and rested.
Gardening allows us to nurture: No matter the age, race, or gender, gardening taps on our ability to be nurturers. Taking care of plants helps people with mental health problems to contribute to a transformative activity and process, that also help boost their self-esteem.

What do you find most enjoying or rewarding about gardening?
It is a daily routine, you care about beings even if they are plants, you get rewarded by beauty or bounty, you see them grow...
What tips would you give to those who are new to gardening?
Do not be afraid to play by the ear or have ypur own ideas or innovations, there is so much gardening materiar out there that it can stress you out and scare you out of it..just jump in like in the water and learn while swimming...
For those who do not have space to have a garden, what are your tips to surround yourself with greenery?
I had times when I did not have space, at work I was always scolded tgat I have plants and encourage plant growing in the office...my colleages put their sick plants near me since they wpuld get better fast, I do not know why...
Even in an apartment you can use gardening long pots...I grew strawberies and raspberries in my appartment. Raslberries grow well near the walls so they do not take space...
Imagination is the limit...
At present I have a hive of wild bees in the corner of my room window and am sad I no longer have plants for them...
@OldSerendipityBoat
I'm still a beginner but I love your idea of diving right in and giving it a try. I did not know you could grow fruit indoors!!
@PeaceLoveandPaws
Of course you can, fruit, vegetables or cooking herbs on your kitchen counter...some grow mushrooms too on tree trunks...that is why I told you imagination is the limit. I have a neighbour, she expanded her garden on the floor hallway and I don't mind having plants around...
When I was not alone I always had a live christmas tree in a pot not a cut dead one. We nurtured it and after 2 years we took it outdoors and replanted it again....the last one I planted in the gardens of the high hills of my ex-girlfriend lands...
@PeaceLoveandPaws faspberries donot mind indoors shadow and love growing by the walls...imagine inviting your friends to pick their own raspberries while visiting you just leaning back from the sofaand reaching for them...berries are used with the shadows of the forest so are purrfect for appartments...
@OldSerendipityBoat

When I studied in Paris I had Indonesian friends and they would take us to market and then we would gather in the campus kitchen and have cookouts, so much fun. My indonesian friend knew so many recupes by heart and I copied them from her ans learned about new plants and spices from her that I never knew existed...good old days of fun...

Most rewarding: the calm I feel while tending to the garden; the satisfaction of eating home grown food. Tips: water plenty but don’t over-water. Fill your home with artificial plants.
Hello all. I have never grown anything before. Last year when lockdown was at its worst I took an avocado pip and put it in water. I so excited. By the third week I was ready to give up. When the sixth week rolled around I finally saw it sprout some roots. I was so thrilled that I actually was able to grow something.
I agree, that growing your own, it's very therapeutic. I grow lots of flowers and have began, with tomatoes, potatoes and carrots , lettuce cauliflower plus lots more
My boyfriend threw me out for a week. My plants all died. It felt good to come home and throw them away.
