Finding a therapist
Hello, I am a newbie here. I'm really glad to have found you all. I am closer to 50 than 35, but still over 35. As an older person I find it really difficult to find suitable therapy. I have had some bad experiences. My last therapist would actually just miss sessions all together and later tell me that she had technical issues. I feel like I have very complicated problems and I really can't relate to therapists who do not have kids. Can anyone help me figure out the best way to find a therapist? I like that I could text my therapist using this site, but I feel like it is maybe a little too expensive for me and I don't think I would text that much because like my name says I am more reserved.
If I'mgoing to spend the money and invest the time. Just want to make sure I find the right person who I feel comfortable with and who also can understand my complex situation. What has worked for you and what hasn't worked for you? How do you like therapy if you're using the therapy on this site?
It is a new week. I have a pretty busy week, but plan to call some therapists from my insurance list. I found 2 that might work, 2 that I dont feel good about, 3 that couldn't see me, and have one appointment this week so far. I would really like an in person therapist and only one is somewhat close to me, so hoping I can find an in-person therapist from my insurance list. Too bad so many therapists are going to online only appointments.
Hi, I am NLP, EFT therapist who uses , consulting , EFt, NLP modalities to heal others, therapy is chargeable as 3 smiles 😊 per day and you can connect me as a friend.

I appreciate your willingness to share and your transparency regarding your situation. My perspective is that if you are seeing a therapist, they should possess the ability to handle whatever you disclose and provide you with a comfortable and safe space. While I am not a therapist, I believe their role is to encourage you to open up, so I apologize if you feel that your concerns were too complex for her. There are others out there who may resonate with you, and I would advise against giving up after just one experience. Given the current economic climate, I understand your feelings as well. I suggest seeking some form of closure, whether through journaling, praying about it, or engaging with a supportive friend group who can relate to your experiences. Please note that this is not professional advice; it is merely a suggestion to consider alternative options. Ultimately, you are the best judge of your own situation and the outcome you desire from the therapist. If you have not yet started, that might be a beneficial step as well.
UPDATE
I selected a therapist. Just finished the paperwork (and there was A LOT!) I almost gave up there were so many questions. Thank you all for the advice and help 😃
I'm new to the site but have similar past issues. Please let us know if you get some info. Full support 👍🤝

Can we talk
Hello @Quincylaw
Thank you for responding. How are you today? I am pretty new here and it looks like you might be also. I am a member not a listener, so we can talk in this thread, or could try a penpal chat, but only a trained listener can talk to a member privately as far as I know. If you would like to chat in the penpal section, just tag me, or I could tag you.
I just wanted to add an update. I am really thankful for everyone's comments because as a result of the help you offered, I was able to find a therapist. I didn't think I would want a male therapist, but so far it is working out really well and I'm glad I took the time to research and ask questions before taking on the first therapist I was able to get into.
If anyone is wondering, I ended up interviewing. I wanted to interview 10 therapists, but I ended up finding only six to choose from. I did find one out of those six.
UPDATE I was surprised, but shortly after I posted that I successfully found a therapist that I thought was a good fit he did some things I found unprofessional. He first cancelled our appointment without telling me, then I rescheduled online, and by email he told me he couldn't be my therapist without any explanation.
I have been seeing a lot of other doctors/working, and haven't had time to go back to search again, so here I am. This is the second unprofessional therapist since I have lived here in a year. I'm not sure if I should or will try again or not. Well see after things calm down for me in November I guess.
I need a therapist
