I'm in Seattle. I'm struggling with loneliness and anxiety.
I don't have any close friends, no contact with family. I'm struggling. The thought of dying alone haunts me.
I'd love to build a few, deep connections so the world doesn't feel so empty.
Hi, @Matt3385 I am very sorry that you are going through this struggle. I understand the challenge and I hope that you at least find some members of your tribe here to keep you company and help you get through your loneliness. It's a journey that we cannot just have with anybody; we have to realize that people's place in our lives should be earned just as we earn our places in their lives.
There is also the possibility that we are meant to experience the journey alone. It's not a bad thing. More difficult and heavier, yes, but it helps build character and a stronger, better version of us.
It would also help you to ground yourself; that not everything you think is a reality of the situation. That not everything you perceive to be true IS true. And at the end of the day, open yourself. We are at our strongest when we are vulnerable.
Sending you hugs!
Hi. I'm kinda new here. Ur post totally resonates with me! I used to have friends, but I've had lifelong depression, anxiety, PTSD, and ADHD undiagnosed until adulthood. My thought patterns and depression caused me to push everyone away. Lately, I fear dying alone.
I feel very supported and connected on this site. My hope for both of us is that we move forward in our personal journeys enough to forge real friendships and thrive.
Thank you for your vulnerability. Please feel free to stay in touch.
@Matt3385
Hi Matt,
I resonate with your post very much, I had lots of "friends", you know, the ones who contacted me once in a blue moon, the ones who would arrange to go to the cinema with me but then have to cancel.
I too feared dying alone, especially after my marriage was full of domestic abuse by her towards me, of all forms of abuse possible, she cut me off from the few I did know and like, so by the time I reached the "fight or flight" mode in my marriage and decided, I need to leave this, it's toxic and unhealthy, I was on course for a head on crash with a mental breakdown and whilst I left the marriage, still had the breakdown, was in a very bad way and had to go into emergency accommodation for a year that had 24 hour supervision staff on hand, I got my own place to live and although I like being alone, I don't like being lonely, I want people around me but I don't, and it's a horrible place to be.
I have literally nobody now other than my kids and still have to deal with my ex who is always poking her nose into my business so had to put up a barrier which comes in the form of saying "It's none of your business" to anything she asks unless it involves our children, and I have daily contact with my kids and ultimately, her.
She use to say "You'll never find anyone else who will put up with you like I have, you need to change, you need me more than I need you" - ultimately, I haven't met nobody else, I don't want to, all my relationships have ended up in me being abused one way or another, I've been abused since a young child, I have no sex drive at all, and I really couldn't care less.
My focus is my kids, relationships are abuse in my eyes, more stress in my life I really don't need right now, and as for dying alone - nowadays I think "I'd rather die alone than around a bunch of liars, abusers, money grabbers and cheats"
I do understand your post, from many sides.
