Unmotivated & Stuck

For a long time now, I’ve been feeling really unmotivated—like I just can’t find the energy or desire to do anything, even the stuff I used to enjoy. On top of that, being married feels more like a weight than something supportive right now, and work is draining me. I’m stuck in this weird place where I don’t know what I want from my future, and it’s making me anxious. Has anyone else felt this kind of burnout or confusion? How do you deal when everything feels misaligned?

@ChristyAnne

Hi!

In my 20s and 30s I was full of ambitions (to a fault). I chased one dream after another, sure that the next one would bring me security, happiness, and peace for the rest of my days. Oftentimes I used my wife and our expectant family as a reason for my lofty pursuits, but ego was really behind it all.

When my first child was born, I couldn't run away from my responsibilities as nimbly as I could before, so life slowed down. Taking care of a newborn offered some distraction from an emptiness inside me that had been growing for some time. Shortly after the birth of my second child, life seemed completely off-kilter. I felt low energy, unmotivated to do anything but to go to work and come home, I hated my job but saw no way out, my marriage was on the rocks, and not even the shining eyes of my children could bring me any glimmer of hope for my future.

I don’t know if my story aligns with yours, although I think I relate to the feelings you're expressing. So rather than go on, I’d like to know more about your situation. Do you have kids? Or are you thinking about them? What’s going on with your marriage? Have you had a tumultuous job life like I did? Were you ambitious?

I’d like to help out if I can.

@ChristyAnne

Sorry you're feeling this way. You are not alone with your struggles.

I could relate to the way your feeling. For the longest time (close to 20yrs) my marriage was really the two of us just co-habitating in the house. I have gotten to the point where work is no longer in my heart and I dispise it with a passion.

Home life ove the past several months has gotten better, my wife and I sat down one day and discussed what was eating at the both of us and we hashed things out and we are in a good place now.

I can relate to that numb feeling. It sounds like your mind and body may have just needed to check out for a bit, like a kind of emotional pause. It can feel like limbo; it is a quiet place where you can rest and reconnect with yourself. Maybe this is your system's way of asking for gentleness and self-care. There is nothing wrong with you. Let yourself move slowly, and trust that clarity will come in time.

@ChristyAnne You're not alone - so many people go through periods like this, and it’s okay to feel off track. It shows you’re aware and want change, which is a strong first step. Be kind to yourself, take small steps, and remember clarity often comes with time and self-compassion. You've got this. 🌱

@ChristyAnne I’m sorry you’re feeling this way. I totally get it. I’ve struggled with burnout, anxiety, and overall feeling purposeless too. It can be really hard to manage, but I’ll share some things that have helped me a lot to get through it:

  • What has helped me the most has been trusting in Jesus and His plan for my life. I have faith in His sacrifice on the cross to save me, that He’s working everything together for good for me, and that He created me for a purpose. Remembering this has definitely helped ground me when I feel lost!

  • Taking small, actionable steps every day has really helped! Even little things like taking a shower, going outside for a 15 minute walk, calling a friend, finishing one assignment, making a bracelet, etc. Keep going and taking consistent action because success is inevitable!!

  • Take breaks as much as needed!! This is so important! Rest up, take it easy and trust that it will get better because it will!! You are ABSOLUTELY strong enough to get through this!

We’ll be here with you every step of the way!! We’re rooting for you 🫶 sending you so much love, hugs, and prayers!!!
