What would you do?

If someone offered you a pill and said "You will lose you memory of bad things that happened to you, you will forget about relationships and people that hurt you, and you will get to start a new life somewhere else without those memories" would you take that pill?

@zeetee17

I would not take it. Like many had said we learn from these bad memories. Also, I want to know whether or not our body still remember the memories after we take the pill.

For example, you got beaten up every single day for years and then one day you lost your memories. Wouldn't your body still flinch when somebody tap you on the shoulder or get to close to you.

In my opinion if our body still remember the bad memories than I prefer not to take the pill. I would rather know why I act a certain way due to a traumatic event instead of not know and thinking I am crazy.

I would say, yes I think if I was in an acute phase and someone said those exact words since I know my condition has created so many problems for others too. I wish I could have the perfect brain and body, but realistically even working so tough at it I don’t think it will happen on an average basis for me. Some people are really successful at it though. I would say you could try cognitive remediation plus psychotherapy then take medications still if needed. Also, some people just need to be on pills they are legally trapped on them or close enough. So there’s that holding people to them. If people were to appreciate others full potential more and be more accepting in this world then people could function better. Also, unlikely to change much. Sometimes! Every now and then. So that gives me hope when I see people think outside of the box then try to go live that lifestyle. Go for it and make it work. You can do it.

I wouldn't because then I would have less compassion and understanding. You can't have true happiness without an understanding of suffering

Interesting question and a weird one for me to ponder since I went through a self-hypnosis process that put the worst of my memories at one remove. They became something I witnessed rather then lived. I made the decision that actually losing memories was a bad things but having my child self watch with the full support of my adult self making it okay is now linked to all of my worst memories.

You tell me if that is the middle position between forgetting those important lessions and being trapped in the pain?

It was something I needed to do to stop being my own worst enemy, sabotaging myself all the time because I was just far to damaged by all the stuff I'd been through.

I am willing to teach others but also advise extreme caution- this is not a process you enter lightly and while it worked for me - I'd be more comfortable partnering with someone who has actual offical training before even attempting to take others down this path of healing.

Thoughts?

That would be nice but I won't take such a pill because the bad things that happened to me made me grow, mature, and realize how some people can be.

So pass!

@zeetee17

While to take the pill would remove all the baggage and negative in my life. While I am sure I would be happier and potentially Joyous.
I would pass at taking the pill.

To do so would also remove the character and experiences. The old adage "It is better to Love and Loss then to never Love at all." With that understanding, to remove those memories would also remove the loss.

Ending results, removing negative memories will change and alter the person. Which would mean the person I am today would no longer be.

Sees without taking the pill being shitculture. Idkyugiveafuck. I don't know what I'm doing half the time and think I crapped up specific peoples' lives. I can't live with myself very well.

I hear you and see you.

We sometimes go through the motions.

Most people (if they were honest) don't know what they are doing. Additionally we all crap on someone's door step all the time. We don't always know it.

I remember talking to someone whom complained about me (to me and didn't know it) and said how horrible of a person I was. And yet I had no clue who this person was.

Now all that being said, all the BS of the past. The hurt abandonment, abuse, and lord knows what all else... Removing that would than (in my opinion) would devalue the good because I would forget the bad to contrast.

I don't believe in that. If you do something really terrible, damaging and life ruining to someone, they're not going to "love" you unconditionally. love can be broken
